Here are some of the common questions people ask about us…
Is your worship service contemporary or traditional?
In short, both. We believe that a healthy expression of worship is one that goes beyond divisions in musical styles and allow us to worship as one body. Often the deeper issue is not the kind of music but our willingness to lay aside our preferences for others (Philippians 2:5-11). For that reason, you will find that our worship style at Bethel is truly “blended” in style. In a typical service we sing hymns, contemporary praise music, read scripture together, and sometimes even utilize liturgical forms of worship. There is a healthy diversity throughout church history and we seek to embrace this in order to build unity and deference, not only in our musical styles but in all we do.
What should I wear to a worship service?
We have a “come as you are” mindset when it comes to dress. On a typical Sunday you will see a variety of styles. Some come in suits while others sport jeans and t-shirts. How one dresses isn’t all that important to us. We just want people to come and to encounter the living God!
Are you Republican or Democrat?
Neither- because God is neither. We believe that there are strengths and weakness to both political parties and that neither fully captures the heart of God; they can’t because they’re human institutions. We want to be a church that is inclusive of a wide variety of political views and holds to the final authority of Scripture for our lives. We believe that our unity in Christ is greater than our differing political points of view.
Are you legalistic?
There is a real tendency in churches to make following Christ more about a list of do’s and don’ts rather than a relationship with Jesus. We believe this is one of the most dangerous misrepresentations of the Gospel. Being in a right relationship with God and growing in Him has less to do with following all the rules and more to do with trusting in Christ who paid for all our wrongs on the cross (Galatians 3:1-5). To be sure, there are things that we are supposed to do to grow in Christ, but they come as a response to Jesus’ grace rather than a way to earn it. We want to encourage one another to discover what God is calling us to do and to help each other respond in obedience.
How do I get involved?
We’re so glad you asked! We believe that serving God is an important part of growing in your relationship with Him. There are a number of ways to get involved from working with children and youth, ministering to seniors, leading others in worship, and reaching out to the lost in our community. Perhaps the best way to start is to schedule a meeting with Pastor Ryan to learn more about Bethel and where you can serve contact him at the church office or email at ryan@bethelbaptistmt.com.
